Retailer Safety Drive

In September of 2007, Congress passed the FDA Revitalization Act and it was signed into law by the President.

This law mandates the creation and implementation of new standards for pet food production, labeling, and ingredients within 24 months.

It has become glaringly apparent that the Pet Food Institute (the trade organization) and the APPMA (American Pet Products Manufacturers Assn.) will make every effort to delay the progress of this effort and to control the final decisions.

Repeated attempts on our part and many other consumers to influence the PFI and the APPMA have fallen on deaf ears.

OBVIOUSLY, the PFI and the APPMA will only listen to their own customers, the retail stores that sell their products.

With this in mind, DefendOurPets.org is launching the Retailer Safety Drive.

It's really very simple. Just send an e-mail or letter to your retailer and others asking them to contact the PFI and the APPMA and recommend they strongly support the new law.

You can find a list of retailer contact names and addresses from our:

Retailer List

To make things easier, I have prepared a suggested e-mail or letter for you to use if you wish. Even if you use this letter, I strongly suggest some changes in the wording for the drive to have the maximum effect.

Retailer Letter or E-Mail

You may, of course, contact the PFI and the APPMA yourself.

The contact names and e-mail addresses are:

Angele Thompson
Pet Food Institute
tpettec@cs.com

Bob Vetere
American Pet Products Manufacturers Association
bob@appma.org

Please forward to me any feedback you receive.

Thanks,

Mike
